Great Book! November 19, 2008 Colleen Thomas (Mount Prospect, IL)
Marley & Me is the heartwarming and inspiring story of Marley, a rambunctious Labrador retriever, and the lives of those he touched. From the first impression Marley gave, he does not seem like the kind of a dog a growing family would even consider keeping around. He was loud, clumsy, and obnoxious; he trashed the house, jumped on the guests, and ate everything in site. Basically, he was pretty much the complete opposite of the ideal house pet. But if you looked past that first impression Marley gave, you would see a friendly, non-aggressive dog who was just looking for a good game of tug-o-war, and that just makes this story all the more touching. As a high school student, this was not a difficult book to read at all. It was a rather easy read, and even though I read this book for a class assignment, it is a book I would pick up to read in my free time. I usually prefer fiction over non fiction, but I really enjoyed this non fiction book. I think that most people would enjoy this book, no matter what genre they preferred, because it is such an easy book to just sit down and get into. Marley & Me is a classic example of the relationship between man and beast. While the event can seem tedious at times, this true story will inspire you and will stay in your heart forever.
Laughed, cried, laughed and cried some more November 18, 2008 Marley Lover (Philadelphia, PA) I enjoyed reading this book for a few reasons. The tone and tempo was light and inviting. The stories told reminded me much of all of the times with my own dogs, the ones in childhood and now my own. I realize the pain they felt losing him and can empathize with many joys and frustrations he had explained so clearly in this book. I couldn't put it down and when I finished, I just wanted to be with my 2 dogs, who-by the way-are in my garage everyday, paintently awainting my return. After all, they are DOGS! Before I read this book, I also read some of the Amazon reviews and when I finished the book, I failed to see why so many people were so upset with Grogan and his family. It seemed like a very light hearted account of a family who loved their dog because he was so crazy-didn't neglect or abuse them. I have 2 dogs now, one who is a crazy spaz and the other who is very mellow. There are perks to both, but we love them just the same.

IGNORE THE IGNORANCE OF OTHER REVIEWS November 4, 2008 Ashley (NY) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Marley and Me is a TERRIFIC book and the Grogans were WONDERFUL parents to Marley. All the pathetic people sitting here writing reviews saying that the Grogans were cruel to Marley are truly DISGUSTING. Do you really expect people who get dogs to quit their jobs simply to spend 24/7 at home taking care of an animal?? Get real! This book is beautiful and the relationship between Marley and the Grogan family was no only heart warming but was REALISTIC! People on here need to STOP being so judgmental and attacking a family for what others perceive to be poor "parenting" skills. I am an extreme animal lover, especially dogs. I donate regularly to the ASPCA and am a big proponent for animal rescue. The Grogans did the best job they could with Marley and more importantly, the gave him LOVE. I loved this book and I applaud the Grogans!
